Soundbite’s Top Five: Sloss Fest Edition

Slossfest is a southern festival highlight, taking place July 14-15th in Alabama’s “Magic City” Birmingham. The festival’s venue is one-of-a-kind; it’s held at the historical industrial site Sloss Furnaces. It’s the only site in the United States that has preserved 20th century blast furnaces and played a major key in the American industrial revolution. With such a unique venue, the festival also produces unique lineups every year. Spanning different genres, new and old artists, here’s Soundbite Magazine’s Slossfest Top Five:

THE BRUMMIES

Alabama natives The Brummies are an alt-rock trio formed in 2014. They’ve supported various artists like NEEDTOBREATHE and Kasey Musgraves on tours, and their debut album “Eternal Reach” was released in 2018.

WAXAHATCHEE

Another Alabama native Waxahatchee, a indie-rock project created by Katie Crutchfield, is reminiscent of 90’s soft grunge rock.

BIG FREEDIA

New Orleans’s Big Freedia is a bounce music icon, with awesome back-up dancers and high energy performances. Big Freedia has collaborated with artists like Rupaul, Diplo, and Drake.

HIPPIE SABOTAGE

Hippie Sabotage is a EDM duo from Sacramento, CA. Brothers Jeff and Kevin Saurer’s live set is chill and groovy, and an enjoyable live music experience all together.

ARCADE FIRE

Montreal natives Arcade Fire is a festival must-see. Their live show is so emotional and beautiful; there’s nothing like it. It’s sure to make the crowd dance, sing, and even cry at some points. Arcade Fire puts on a excellent show.
