Ben Kweller Performs Intimate Sold Out Show At The Basement

Ben Kweller is an Indie songwriter icon who had been on a hiatus for many years so that he could spend more time with his family, specially after him and his family suffered a near death experience due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Despite his lack of activity in the last few years he still has a loyal cult following and now is finally back. Ben Kweller’s self-released his debut album, Sha Sha in 2000. Two years later he signed to ATO Records and the label decided to release a new version of Sha Sha with a few changes.

Ben Kweller has slowly been recovering from his traumatic experience and is coming back into the scene with a new album in sight titled Circuit Boredom. So far, he has only released the first single “Heart Attack Kid” which sound is reminiscent to his earlier work. The indie singer songwriter is now back on the road and making it up to his fans.

Ben Kweller performed a sold-out show at Nashville’s intimate venue, The Basement. The show was supported by Californian band, Modern Love Child, the band is fronted by Jonny Shane Jr. The singer told the audience how he was impacted by Kweller’s songwriting growing up and how he randomly ran into him in coffeeshops in different cities and how he was excited to now be on tour with him as the supporting act. Modern Love Child’s set was short but the band managed to make a good impression on the audience. As the band only had two members they were running instruments track from a computer to make the band sound fuller.

Ben Kweller’s set was laid back and casual with constant interaction between him and the audience. The show started with “Commerce, TX” a song about his college years. Three songs into the set, he played another classic song, “Run”. As the show passed by his band exited the stage and he brought a friend of his who used to tour with him for a few songs and the duo asked the audience for requests. Once the band came back on stage his friend stayed to play one more song with the whole band.

Ben Kweller seems like a musician who is very appreciative of his fans and looks like he is trying to make it up to them for his long hiatus. The singer-songwriter  stayed around after the show to sign albums and chat with the attendees.
