La Femme, Mystere

La Femme, the French Psychedelic Beach Rock band, is currently making their way across Southeast Asia for their 2017 Asia Tour. This brought them to Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, and finally several concerts in Japan.

The band carries a unique sound that blends elements of 60’s Surf, EDM, Indie, Psych Rock, and French Pop, creating a message that crosses borders and speaks to a multi national audience. Despite most of their songs being in french (with a few written in English), their music has a way to speak to listeners across the globe. Their music has brought them across Europe, Asia, and the US since the forming in 2010.

On March 9th, the six member ensemble took the stage at the Emax Music Zone in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong. A small venue tucked within the halls of the larger Emax shopping mall, the cozy space allowed for an interactive and intimate setting for the band to perform. This was their second time in the city, the first being at “Clockenflap” festival a few years before. The act packed the small venue, filling it to the brim with Chinese, French, and American fans.

The night began with local Hong Kong band “After After Party”, who played a fun set of girl-punk parody songs. Wearing red, white and blue (to honor the flag of the French headliner), the group's high energy comedy act featured songs about men, dating, and “how to take a selfie”.

After a quick 30-minutes set from the opener, La Femme took the stage. They performed a mix of songs from their first album, “Psycho Tropical Berlin”, in addition to songs from their latest album “Mystere”. The audience roared during favorites like “Antitaxi”, “Sur la Planche” and “Tatiana”, screaming back lyrics to the band (despite half the audience not being able to speak a word of French).

The band is set to tour throughout France and Europe starting this June. A US tour is scheduled for this fall, with a full list of dates coming later this summer.
