Pink Floyd's premiere iconic art, film, & more at 'Their Mortal Remains' Hollywood exhibition

 

For a limited time only, Pink Floyd fans and Southern Californians can experience the history and art behind Pink Floyd’s discography at ‘The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains exhibition’ in Los Angeles, California. The exhibit features the history behind Pink Floyd’s music, highlighting film, song lyrics, concepts behind music videos, visual design of album artwork, live performance, and stage architecture. The Pink Floyd exhibition is visiting Los Angeles for a limited time only at the Vogue Multicultural Museum on Hollywood Boulevard. This exhibit is curated for the whole family to learn about Pink Floyd and enjoy their music history, psychedelic artwork, life size installations, video projections and more!

As guests enter the museum, they are provided an audio guide to accompany their visual experience throughout the Pink Floyd exhibit. When a guest walks up to the stations, the audio begins and they are provided an in-depth background about the pieces in the collection and how its’ tied to the development of Pink Floyd’s history and musical development. Visitors can find never before seen Pink Floyd collector pieces such as Syd Barrett’s and David Gilmour’s coveted guitars, Pink Floyd comic drawing samples, and handwritten letters by the musicians. The exhibition is curated by members of Pink Floyd and features their personal items such as photos, letters, and artwork.

The exhibit highlights album artwork, music video filming, and the backstory for their films and albums. “Atom Heart Mother” album cover is featured in the gallery, which is the fifth album released by Pink Floyd on October 2nd 1970. The album was recorded in the legendary Abbey Road studios. The theme of album cover artwork was to display a humorous take on an anti-psychedelia. The album cover features two cows in a pasture which was influenced by Andy Warhol’s “cow wallpaper.” The album was featured in the classic film, “Clockwork Orange.”

The exhibit features live performance videos by Pink Floyd and hosts a wall dedicated to Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. The concert documentary was filmed at an ancient Roman theatre in Pompeii, Italy in 1972. Attributing to similar films such as “Woodstock” and “Gimme Shelter” movement, the band choose not to perform in front of a live audience. Filmed in several days, the film highlights the band’s musical talents as their music embodies the amphitheater. The viewer of the film can focus on the band as the centerpiece and dive deep into the musical sounds of Pink Floyd.

Guests can experience the history behind the cover art for “Wish You Were Here” where the person in the shot was lit on fire and runs out of frame. This action highlights the theme of the photograph portraying absence. The image depicts two executives in classy suits making a mysterious deal near a studio. This hand gesture between the business men conveys empty gestures without purpose ad how people can be emotionally withdrawn due to fear of being burned.

Also, featured is the story behind the making of the music video for “A Momentary Lapse of Reason,” and how gloomy weather in the United Kingdom made it difficult and very expensive to shoot the music video. They also showd how the crew would need to run back and forth with the beds featured in the music video to prevent them getting wet.

The exhibit also contains subtle hidden gems such as a letter from an astronaut that took Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon to a Space mission and played the album while surfacing the moon.

‘The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains exhibition’ is taking place through January 9, 2022. The event is curated by Michael Cohl of S2BN Entertainment and Los Angeles event promoter, Diego Gonzalez.
