Slightly Stoopid, Sublime with Rome, Atmosphere, and The Movement: South Florida Summertime Tour 2023

It was a packed evening at the iThink Amphitheater on September 3, 2023, during the West Palm Beach stop of the Summertime 2023 Tour. The lineup boasted an impressive array of talent, featuring Slightly Stoopid, Sublime with Rome, Atmosphere, and The Movement. Each band brought their unique style to the stage, creating the perfect ambiance from start to finish.

It was early in the evening as the crowd started rolling in just in time for The Movement to kickstart the show. The four-piece band from Columbia, South Carolina has toured alongside major names like The Wailers, Soja, Wu-Tang Clan Ludacris and more. This evening they played a 35 minute set with hit songs like “Take Me To The Ocean,” “Sounds Of Summer,” and “Mexico”. Their fusion of reggae and rock consistently push boundaries in genres or “alternative reggae” as lead singer and guitarist, Joshua Swain once said in an interview with The Reggae News Agency.

As the evening continued, Atmosphere brought a change of pace with their introspective and thought-provoking hip-hop. Slug's lyrical prowess and Ant's beats provided a unique contrast to the reggae-infused sounds of the rest of the lineup. Songs like “Sunshine” and “God's Bathroom Floor” delved deep into the human experience, connecting with the audience. “Put a smile on that ugly face because everything’s alright” shouted Slug a few times throughout the set. A few simple reminders that life is good, especially when you’re at a concert.

By this point, the theater was packed. Everyone from the pit to the lawn seemed to be completely immersed and enjoying the energy. People on the lawn brought blankets and chairs, and the usually unforgiving Florida weather even graced us with a nice breeze and clear skies for the evening. Sublime with Rome took the stage next, paying homage to the iconic '90s band Sublime, with a touch of their own modern twist. Frontman Rome Ramirez's vocals were nothing short of electrifying, always capturing the essence of Bradley Nowell's legendary sound.

They initiated their set with perfectly executed covers of Sublime’s “April 29, 1992,” “Doin’ Time,” and “Wrong Way”. Rome also took a moment to address a common misconception about one of their songs “Date Rape”. He was very vocal about not holding back from performing this song because “if people took the time to listen to the lyrics, they would understand that this song is about consent. About no meaning no”. Classics like “Santeria” and “What I Got” had the audience singing along at the top of their lungs, proving that Sublime's timeless music still resonates with fans of all ages.

Slightly Stoopid finally took the stage and instantly transported us to a laid-back beachside paradise as the band's smooth melodies washed over the amphitheater. The band came together in Ocean Beach, California in 1994 with the help of Bradley Nowell. He signed them to his label Skunk Records while they were still in high school. The band has toured with big names throughout the years and has released nine studio albums since their inception. That evening they played an energetic hour and a half set and even brought out Rome during a crowd favorite performance of “2 A.M.” Their signature blend of reggae, punk, and rock had fans swaying and singing along to hits like “Good Life” and “Closer to the Sun,” setting the perfect tone for a closing to a night to remember.
