On August 2-5, 2018 Lollapalooza will make its much-anticipated return to Grant Park, Chicago, continuing the festival’s long-standing run of over 25 years. In an era where music festivals seem to be more prevalent, widely advertised, and highly attended than ever, it is certainly difficult for festivals to stand out among the crowd. Lollapalooza, however, has such deep roots in the festival realm and a name known worldwide – with installations ranging from Berlin to Brazil to Paris and even Stockholm – that promoters already have a bit of a leg up on the competition when it comes to drawing in audiences.
GRAMMY, Golden Globe and Emmy-Award winning and multi-talented recording artist, actor, and producer Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino announced dates for his upcoming North American tour with special guest Rae Sremmurd. Produced by Live Nation in partnership with Wolf + Rothstein, the month-long outing will visit 13 cities across North America, kicking off in Atlanta on September 6 and wrapping in Vancouver on September 30.
On a blisteringly hot day, people from all over the Asbury Park area rallied together at Springwood Park as a part of the “Families Belong Together” protests happening nationwide. The protests were set into motion as a way of showing peaceful solidarity with people whose families were broken apart by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the current and former presidents’ terms.
This past Saturday held the 7th annual Summer Splash event which doubled as a tribute to Sublime’s loved, Bradley Nowell. The event took place at a very unique venue in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Shed is a pop up amphitheater that definitely gave you a very modern vibe along the train station. As the doors opened around 1:30pm the sun beamed a scorching 90 degrees. But it was only about to get hotter from there.
Over the past few years “Pride Day” in Asbury Park, NJ has gone smoothly but this year was very different. Pride Day is the last Sunday in June and in Asbury Park it’s held in Bradley Park, an idyllic location a block away from the beach. However, this year Bradley Park was given to Revivalist Reverend Jonathan Shuttlesworth and his “Festival of Life.” Shuttlesworth is no stranger to making anti-LGBTQ comments as he once said that “somebody bound in homosexuality [has a] wicked spirit.” Needless to say that once the LGBTQ community and its allies heard of Shuttlesworth’s festival coming to town, it did not take long for them to come up with a counter festival that welcomes all.
Slossfest is a southern festival highlight, taking place July 14-15th in Alabama’s “Magic City” Birmingham. The festival’s venue is one-of-a-kind; it’s held at the historical industrial site Sloss Furnaces. It’s the only site in the United States that has preserved 20th century blast furnaces and played a major key in the American industrial revolution. With a knack for good music and a desire to give back, local San Diego rock musicians, Switchfoot, will once again hit the waves and stage on June 30, 2018 for the14th Annual BRO-AM Beach Fest. Drawing crowds of over 17,000 people and counting, the event will be held at Moonlight State Beach and feature attractions such as surfing contests and a plethora of different vendors lining the sand. Main draws will also include a top-notch set of live performances by Colony House, Sure Sure, and the winning band from the 91X Battle for the BRO-AM. Switchfoot themselves will even close out the afternoon with a scheduled set beginning at 3:35pm.

The Cambridge River Arts Festival first began in 1974 when a group of artists charged themselves with the development of an annual event that would showcase and celebrate the rich artistic traditions and activity that make Cambridge such a unique and exciting place. Each year this event is held to support local artists and engage audiences with a dazzling array of visual and performing arts.
Each year at The Calgary Stampede they host multiple Canadian artists and other artists from around the world at a stage they call "The Coca Cola Stage." Previous line ups included artists such as Vance Joy, Magic!. X-Ambassadors and Alessia Cara. This is the top event to attend if you are someone who wants to discover new artists, view local artists or if you are a music lover in general. I like to view it as a huge music festival that is split into multiple days so that you don't have to endure a full tiring day out in the sun waiting for your favourite artist to perform.
The fifth annual Float Fest is on the calendar for July 21-22, in historic San Marcos, Texas. After weeks of mild temperatures, the summer heat finally made an appearance in Houston this weekend and so too, did the inaugural installation of JMBLYA Houston. Though the festival has been in existence for several years, 2018 marks its first installation in Houston and hopefully not its last. This hip-hop centric festival brought together some of the hottest names of 2017 and 2018, even in light of two critical, last-minute cancellations by both Cardi B, due to her pregnancy, and Kevin Gates, due to legal concerns.
Live music, sunshine, and beach vibes rejuvenated festival goers at Back to the Beach Music Festival. The impressive event was curated by The World Famous KROQ,Travis Barker, and John Feldman of Goldfinger and collaborators of many more bands! The event hosted renowned artists on the relaxing landscape of Huntington Beach, California. The scenic festival featured an array of modern ska, punk, and reggae music that satisfied the tastes of eager and ecstatic participants. Audiences flocked to the main stage for a prime spot to catch performances by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, 311, Sublime With Rome, Goldfinger, Save Ferris, The Interrupters, and more! Orange County embraced Back to the Beach with open arms as the festival promoted Ska music and the location of its' fruition in the area.
